Are you interested in incorporating more Animal Welfare Education into your current work? WSPA’s Asia office has developed a great resource that can help you get started. To get a PDF copy of Tips for Animal Welfare Educators, please request a copy at education@wspa-international.org and start teaching about animal welfare today!

For several years, WSPA member society the Environment & Animal Society of Taiwan (EAST) have worked to expose the cruelty involved in weight-based Pigs of God contests and to convince the government to put a stop to these contests, which are in breach of Taiwanese law. WSPA has supported this campaign since 2003, and it is something we have been working on closely with EAST ever since.

There have been recent developments in the campaign:

- According to Council of Agriculture officials, several government agencies have discontinued their funding for festival events involving weight-based Pigs of God contests

- The government have stated their willingness to work with EAST on education programmes aiming to reduce support for weight-based contests.

At this critical stage of the campaign we need to keep the pressure up! You can help by signing the petition at www.pigsofgod.org and asking other people who may be interested to do the same. Thank you!
