| WSPA would like to say a big thank you to all the Member Societies who have supported our current whaling campaign action by spreading the word to their supporters and urging them to take part. At the International Whaling Commission’s annual meeting in Portugal in June, member countries will consider a proposal to allow coastal whaling – effectively lifting the international ban. Many Governments seem dangerously interested in accepting such a proposal despite it being a huge step backwards for animal welfare globally and one which will open the floodgates for this cruel industry to grow worldwide. The on-line action which went live this month, asks people all over the world to write to their Governments asking them to reject proposals to allow coastal whaling at this year’s IWC meeting. With the help of local groups in IWC member countries, we have the opportunity to persuade Governments to uphold the ban on commercial whaling and protect whales from the cruelty of a slow and painful death by exploding harpoon. We are really grateful to all groups who have already told their supporters about this and would appreciate help from any other groups to promote this action to their members up until the 8th June when WSPA will collate all the letters and send to the relevant Governments. http://e-activist.com/ea-camp...._id=351 Urgent message from the International Anti-Fur Coalition: we need your help! As some of you may know, the International Anti-Fur Coalition http://www.antifurcoalition.org is working with Israeli Knesset member, MK Nitzan Horowitz, who has proposed a bill for a total ban on the fur industry in Israel. You can see the full bill translated into English by clicking here: http://www.antifurcoalition.org/bill-against-fur-israel.html. This bill is due to be considered by the Knesset in June. If approved, this will be the first time a country has ever banned fur completely, and would set a global precedent of immense value to the anti-fur movement globally. MK Nitzan Horowitz stated that it is vital to have full global and local support. Your help is crucial on the international level. Please write a letter, on behalf of your organization, telling MK Nitzan Horowitz that your organisation and all its members support this bill, and explain why (It can be a short or long letter). Please send your letter to the International Anti-Fur Coalition who is collecting support letters from associations around the world and will give them to him at the Knesset. By email to: jane.halevy@antifurcoalition.org or By regular mail to: Jane Halevy / International Anti-fur Coalition Haim Laskov street, 5 Ramat Poleg, Natanya 42656 Israel We are counting on all of you, to show that the bill to ban fur trade in Israel has international support!
